External Wall Insulation

External Wall Insulation Contractors

Rendafacade installs external wall insulation (EWI) systems, combining suitable insulation boards, a reinforced basecoat and a protective decorative render finish.

With over 30 years' experience in plastering and rendering, we work with homeowners, housebuilders and contractors across Essex, London, Kent, Suffolk and the surrounding counties. Every insulation system is specified to suit the property.

Stage 01

Insulation boards & system selection

External wall insulation (EWI) adds a continuous insulated layer to the outside of a suitable property. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a common option, while mineral wool and other approved boards may be required to suit the building, fire strategy and performance specification.

The correct board type, thickness, adhesive, fixings and render are selected as parts of a compatible manufacturer's system. Suitability is confirmed after checking the wall construction, moisture condition and project requirements.

Stage 02

Preparation, fixing & detailing

Good EWI begins with a suitable, stable background. We assess existing render and masonry, arrange necessary preparation and plan insulation board installation using the specified adhesive and mechanical fixings where required.

Window reveals, cills, eaves, plinths, damp-proof courses, services and drainage all need careful detailing. Below-DPC or splash-zone materials, including XPS where specified, must be compatible with the approved system.

Stage 03

Reinforced basecoat & render finish

Once the insulation is secured, the system is reinforced using the specified basecoat, alkali-resistant mesh and appropriate beads and profiles. Extra reinforcement and careful workmanship are particularly important around corners and openings.

A compatible primer and finish coat complete the facade. Silicone thin-coat render is a popular decorative choice, with the exact finish, texture and colour selected from the approved manufacturer's range.

Stage 04

EWI for homes & refurbishment

EWI can improve the thermal performance and external appearance of appropriate solid-wall and other suitable properties. We undertake work for homeowners, developers and contractors, from individual homes and extensions to larger refurbishment schemes.

Specialist backgrounds, including some park-home structures or carrier-board installations, require their own assessment and approved detailing. We will only recommend a system once we have checked that it is suitable for the building.

A survey-led approach

The right system for your property

Before quoting, we consider the wall construction, existing defects, exposure, moisture, ventilation, openings, access and any applicable fire and building-regulation requirements. Insulation thickness, fixings and final details are agreed in accordance with the chosen system and the project's design requirements.
